Your Questions About How To Discover New Books

Lizzie asks…

I’ve just discovered books, now what do I read?

I just discovered reading books which is pathetic because I’m 23 and already have graduated college, other than reading sections of textbooks, I haven’t read anything really at all.

Any recommendations for books to read? I know its a broad questions, but just try me

New Niche Finder answers:

The Wheel of Time series <- Best read. Anything by Scott Westerfield. Under The Dome by Stephan King. Dexter series is also 100X better than the show.

It really depends on what you like, everyone will just answer with bias opinions because everyone has a different taste in books.

Donna asks…

I need help discovering a book to read!?!?

So I love to read but cant find books that hold my interest. Iv read all of the harry potters and am almost finished the twilight series..im addicted to these books and want to find more books like them…any suggestions?

New Niche Finder answers:

If you want to stick to fantasy, but maybe want something a bit more sophisticated, you could do a lot worse than the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a fantastically funny, dry-witted series of books by Douglas Adams….. Don’t be fooled by the recent film, which isn’t bad, but the whole series is deeper and more romantically interesting….

Steven asks…

Have you discovered any great books from the music you listen to?

I’m not sure if this belongs in Books and Authors or here. Oh well, I’ll put it here…

From Sympathy For The Devil I discovered The Master and Margarita, from Venus In Furs I discovered the book of the same name and many others. Also there are a lot of great books out there by musicians themselves…Leonard Cohen’s Beautiful Losers being my favorite.

Hey, this is a pretty interesting question. One of my recent favorite books is “Ghost Rider” by Neil Peart, the drummer of Rush. You don’t need to know anything about the band (though, if you do, it helps a bit) to enjoy his remarkable story.
One of my favorites (especially because I play bass guitar) is “Beyond the Bass Clef” by Tony Levin, who plays bass and Chapman Stick for Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, and many others. Tony sprinkles amusing anecdotes, practical advice, and behind-the-scenes commentary throughout the book; information you could only get from an articulate, thoughtful writer as well as creative musician.

Books on discovering yourself?

So I moved to a new province a year ago, and I feel that I’ve kind of lost myself. I used to be outgoing and talkative and actually interesting and a total extrovert, but now I’m really quiet and I constantly keep things to myself and I find it difficult to talk to people and and I honestly have no idea why. So I’m looking for some books that I could read that are about someone “finding themselves” or something similar that I could just relate to and maybe help me out a bit. Thanks! :)

And no Eat, Pray, Love please! I’m a 16 year old girl by the way.

New Niche Finder answers:

When I was your age, I had dated an emotionally abusive guy that I lost my identity to and when he left, I was stuck in this perpetual state of angry. Instead of doing what you are (which is called ‘shutting down’), I managed to create destruction everywhere else in my life. That was, until I read Lilith Saintcrow’s “Working for the Devil”. It was a fantasy book about a character who had far more reason to be pissed off that I ever did but instead of lashing out, she just incorporated her anger and energy to the right places. That helped me more than any book on someone else’s self discovery or the traditional A-B-Cs to self discovery.

The point I’m trying to make is you’ll find help in the least likely of places. Just read. Eventually something will jump out at you or stick with you.

Susan asks…

what are the horcruxes discovered in the 6th book?

what are the horcruxes found in the harrypotter and the half blood prince book?

New Niche Finder answers:

In the sixth book, I think the only one that’s found are Marvolo Gaunt’s ring, Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, and Slytherin’s locket.
