Your Questions About How To Find A New Home For My Dog

Daniel asks…

How to get your dog not to jump on you?

When i get home my dog jumps me and he is 80 pounds it really hurts because he’s about the same size as me. What should i do?

New Niche Finder answers:

Turn away from him, and wait until he stops jumping to turn back around. Also, scolding him would be helpful, NOT harming, just saying ‘no’.

Good luck.

Donald asks…

how can I make my own dog cookie recipe?

what are some “dog friendly” things that I can put in the cookies? also how do I make the proportions? would I just bake it like a normal cookie for 350 degrees? have any of you come up with home made dog recipe’s ? oh also, I’ve been noticing lately that there’s now peanut butter in a lot of dog treats. can dogs eat peanut butter now? I always thought they couldn’t.. what do you think about the peanut butter? B/c my dog has had treats w/ peanut butter and he loves it!

New Niche Finder answers:

Heres a pretty simple recipe I found. Mix 3/4 cup powdered milk, 1 egg, 1 cup peanut butter (smooth), 2 1/4-2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, and 1 Tbsp. Baking powder. You can customize the recipe by adding and subtracting ingredients your dog likes. Roll dough to 1/4 inches. Cut into shapes. Bake on parchment paper 20 minutes. Turn over and bake another 15 minutes. Cool before storing in an airtight container.

How do I make sure that the dog I’m adopting gets along with the dog I already have?

I’m going to go to my local Humane Society tomorrow and adopt a dog, and am looking forward to adding him/her to the family! But, I already have a 3.5 month old lab puppy, and I want to make sure that the puppy and the dog I get will like each other. What can I do to make sure that I don’t bring home a dog that my existing puppy hates? I really want her to have a doggie friend, she’s very social with other dogs and doesn’t get to play with them enough right now (I’m hoping new dog can maybe be a playmate for her!)

My humane society doesn’t have a home visit, only a suitable owner application that is all on paper, fyi.

New Niche Finder answers:

Wow, I’m really disappointed that your shelter doesn’t have at least an evaluator to see if the two dogs have any aggression toward each other. If I were you, I would bring my dog with and ask the shelter to supply you with a place for the two dogs to meet. Watch body language and see for yourself if the two are going to get along. At the very least, they should pretty much ignore each other, or at the very most, should run up to each other, tails wagging and ready to play. If you get anything else, you should not take the chance.
It is often too late after the dog is adopted. You may end up with vet bills from injuries, or have to give the dog back, which would traumatize the poor animal even further.
I think the shelter would coorperate with you-after all, they don’t want the dog to come back.

Charles asks…

Why does my dog bark and wimpier when my dad comes home?

When ever my dad comes home, My dog always get impatient and starts barking, whimpering, and getting excited when he comes home. He doesn’t do this with me, my brother, or my mother, only him. What’s going on and how can we stop it?
My Dog is a Maltipoo, a mix between a Maltese and a Poodle, and he’s almost 2 years old.

New Niche Finder answers:

Why in the world would you want to stop it??
Your dog favors your dad, and is really excited when he gets home. Dogs often choose their favorite person in the family, and from what you say, he’s chosen your dad. It’s not a bad thing at all, and you shouldn’t punish/prevent your dog for naturally being happy.

Joseph asks…

Whats healthier store bought or home cooked dog food?

Im guess my vet is stupid.

Ive asked him whats better home cooked or regular dog food.

He said both are okay. Home made needs dog vitamins.

Whatever he didnt help me!

My dog has been on dog food for 8 years! Shes a poodle mix.

Now that shes getting older, i want the BEST FOR HER and the healthiest!.

I wanted to make her homecooked.

But whats the best home cooked with suppliments or good brand dog food?

New Niche Finder answers:

A cooked diet is not a healthy option, unless you have the expertise, time, and money to devote to painstaking supplementing. Cooking destroys essential nutrients for dogs, and prohibits the feeding of bones.

I’d rather use a good commercial kibble than a cooked diet…

But the best option of all is a prey model raw diet– 80 percent raw meat, 10 percent raw bone, 10 percent raw organ. I highly recommend it. There are lots of helpful books, and even websites and blogs, about how to get started with a raw diet.
