Your Questions About How To Find A New Home For Your Dog

Betty asks…

What happens when two unneutered dogs live together?

This may be a stupid question, but I’m going to be bringing home another dog soon. I haven’t neutered my first one yet, but plan too soon. And then when my second dog comes home I have to schedule an appointment so in the meantime I need to figure out if its okay that the two are together for at least two weeks till my vet has an open date? Or will it not affect them? Thanks! New Dog Owner obviously.

It could go either way. I have two male dogs that are also littermates. When they became sexually mature, they also became a little more aggressive with each other. They’re both neutered now, and get along just fine. Your dog could mark his territory in the house, and/or get aggressive with a new dog. I would do the introduction slowly, and possibly on neutral grounds so your dog doesn’t feel territorial.

Sandra asks…

Is it ok to keep my dog in a cage for hours during the day?

When no one is home, my dog (a pug) stays in a cage. Some days it is for up to 5 hours, maybe a little more. She sleeps in the cage, but sometimes we worry about her. Is it cruel to do this?

(She is indoors in air conditioning in a pretty big cage, but she does not have access to food or a place to go to the bathroom)

New Niche Finder answers:

As long as she has access to water. And maybe a toy it is fine. That is what crate training is.

Mandy asks…

how do I work out what to sell my dog treats at to a pet shop?

We make home made dog treats and a local pet shop wants to sell them. How do i work out what to sell them to them at? It costs me £25 in total for ingredients and the dough makes approximately 250 treats, working out at 10p per treat if my maths is right!

New Niche Finder answers:

A common formula is charge three times what it costs to produce.
But then you have to judge what the market will bear.

Sandy asks…

Should dogs be neutered before their first mating?

I have always heard when I was younger, that if you neutered a male dog before his first mating, it would make him mean. I love my dog but I need to neuter him because we will be living full time in a motor home and traveling a lot and I do not want the risk of him running away and getting in an accident or becoming lost. I understand they become more stay at home dogs after neutering. Any help would be appreciated. ~desertrat

New Niche Finder answers:

Neutering your dog will be the best decision you make for him

1 it calms them down
2 it prevents testicular cancer
3 your dog will be more loving
4 you are stoping unwanted litters
lots of other reasons too but it’d take all day to list them

If every dog was mated before it was neutered think how many 1000’s of unwanted puppies there would be in the pounds and how many millions of mean dogs there would be in the world.

All my dogs have been neutered the moment they started humping legs, toys, blankets etc.
My boys are not mean but in fact very loving and loyal dogs.

Just pop along to your vet and ask when thay can fit him in (as long as he is old enough)
