Your Questions About How To Find A New Job

Michael asks…

How many Job applications need to go out untill you get a job?

Shouldn’t your full time job be hunting for a job until you find one?

New Niche Finder answers:

It could be 1, it could be a hundred! After laid off I sent about 100 until I got another job. The good thing was that the company told me they were closing in a month time, which I used to apply to all the jobs I would be a fit for, and I got another job the second day after being laid off last year. Right now the economy is worse, so it seems a little harder to get any positions, since there is more competition and people looking for jobs now.

George asks…

How important are references on a job application?

I’m 16 applying for a summer job and I don’t really have anybody I could think of to be a reference for a job application. Any thoughts?

New Niche Finder answers:

Try to think of anyone you could possibly put down – teachers, counselors, any sort of leader in any way, etc. They are especially important if you don’t have any work history. My old teacher said references were actually REALLY important on a job application.

Hope that helped. :)

Richard asks…

how do I start about looking for a new job to match my requirements?

my current job is very dissatisfying and its the first job of my life.

New Niche Finder answers:

You have to start with a resume that says what you really want to do not something vague. Example: To find a job as a sales trainee where I can use my strong interpersonal skills. Lots of people put down something like I want a position that will afford me personal growth. That goes into the wastebasket.
Another mistake people make is to just look at help wanted ads. Only 10% of all jobs are filled through ads. Get out the yellow pages and look up companies that have the job you want. Call up and ask if you can fax over the resume and to who’s attention. Follow up in a week with a phone call.

Ruth asks…

What is it about over quilifcation and job applications?

Why wouldn’t they want someone capable of the job? If your overqualified for a certain job, is there a way to know what jobs I should find and go for if I am not selected for employment?

New Niche Finder answers:

No, you start removing things from your resume depending on the job you are applying for.
