Your Questions About New Niches

Susan asks…

How do you know when something is your “NICHE”?

I’m thinking about seeking employment is the medical field maybe medical transcription. I think this is my niche? How will I know?

New Niche Finder answers:

You’ll know if it’s right for you once you’ve done the research.

There are some places where you will have to take some medical terminology courses if you are not familiar with them.
And there are some places that will want you to take a course in Medical Transcription and have a certificate.

Make sure your typing speed is adequate, somewhere between 80 to 100 words per minute. If it’s not, get a speed typing class under your belt.

I hope you’re a good speller because words like heptosplenomegaly are common.

Good Luck!

Thomas asks…

What is a wolf spider’s genus, species & niche?

I need to know what a wolf spider’s Genus, Species & Niche are…please help. Thank you :)

New Niche Finder answers:

Wolf spiders encompass the family of Lycosidae and there are about 100 different genuses of wolf spider totalling around 2,300 species, for example the genus Hogna itself contains over 200 individual species of wolf spider. 228 to be exact.

And as for the wolf spiders niche? Well the single genus hogna is found on every single continent except for antarctica so im not sure if the term ‘niche’ really applies haha

i went on to wikipedia and found a distribution map http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Distribution.lycosidae.1.png

James asks…

Broad authority website or niche specific, which is best?

There are 2 schools of thought on the best approach to choosing a domain name and building a website. They are (1) build an umbrella site that is broad and authoritative, based on one higher demand keyword or (2) build a niche site that is of course, specific to one or two keywords, with far less demand.

Which of these do you think is best, in relation to seo and making money? Please give reasons for your answer.

New Niche Finder answers:

There are a number of pros and cons

– can grow to become an authority site, which means great search engine rankings for a wide variety of keywords
– can be a one-stop destination of target audience where everything they need is on one site
– if you lose some keywords, the site still has hundreds of other keywords
– huge traffic potential
– faster to get links as other sites are more likely to link to this big site

– requires more resources to create, develop, and grow
– when you get hit with a search engine penalty, your entire business falls
– it’s like putting all eggs in one basket

– easier to create, develop as it has a smaller scope
– allows you to dominate a segment, especially if the field is hard to crack with lots of authority sites

– limited traffic
– hard to grow and get traffic
– to earn more, you need to have more of these smaller sites

For years, we’ve followed the broad authority website approach, and it works great for our business model (advertising). It is easier to attract advertisers to the site, and even using third party ad programs such as Adsense yields extremely good results because it is harder to be smartpriced, it has more diverse keywords, and traffic is better.

BUT — we got hit by a Google penalty 3 year ago, and lost 80% of Google traffic. That hurt big time, so we are adding other smaller niche sites to at least provide some backups for the main site.
