Donna asks…

what is likely occur if two population have the same niche in a community?

1.both populations will eventually die out
2.the population better suited to the enviroment will survive and reproduce.
3.both populations will reproduce equal numbers of offspring.
4.one population will change its niche

New Niche Finder answers:

In my opinion, the answer is: 2. The population better suited to the environment will survive and reproduce.

Two different populations can not occupy the same niche at the same time, however. So the processes of competition, predation, cooperation, and symbiosis occur. This is called competitive exclusion. But, different species can hold similar niches and the same species may occupy different niches.

The Port Jackson shark (Heterodontus portusjacksoni) is a harmless, sedentary shark from southern Australia. Port Jackson sharks mostly stay in shallow-water caves and reefs.

The Port Jackson shark is a bottom feeder that eats mollusks (like oysters and snails), crustaceans (like crabs), echinoderms, and some fish. The teeth are unusual, adapted to crushing their hard-shelled prey; there are molar-like (wide and flat) teeth in the front of the mouth and small, sharp teeth in the back of the mouth.

Thomas asks…

How can I reach out to the open source web developer community to get help with a public interest niche site?

I want to create some sites quite similar to Yahoo Answers, but for niche audiences and with public interest in mind–e.g., a special Answers like site for people and families with disability. But I don’t know the first thing about programming. So my idea is to try to reach out to the open source community. Is that all wrong? Or could I get help that way? And how? I look forward to your responses. Thanks for reading.

Steven asks…

Want to write a blog about great movies that flew under the radar? good niche? ?

I know the movie review field is saturated and there are many blogs on the web so I came up with a niche. Is it a good one? I find that if I am write about something hardly few people are I will most likely get more views. People love movies but most only watch movies that are mainstream. I watch a lot of movies. So id like to write a blog about great movies that no one has seen, good niche?

New Niche Finder answers:

It has more to do with writing in a way that people find interesting to read. Simply picking a under appreciated topic won’t help unless you can do it in a way that catches attention.
